Case Study: From a YouTube Channel to a Shop and Bookings. The FLAT OUT Brand Website

FLAT OUT is a motorsport brand with a YouTube channel of over 32k subscribers. Instead of an off-the-shelf theme we built a custom WordPress theme, a WooCommerce shop with Przelewy24, Amelia bookings, a blog with lightbox videos and counters from the YouTube API. Lighthouse: Performance 99 on desktop and 95 on mobile, SEO and Best Practices 100.

FLAT OUT is the motorsport brand of Marcin Radecki: the “radzio FLAT OUT” YouTube channel with over 32,000 subscribers and more than 500 videos, plus driving technique training, consulting and car rental. Marcin is a rally driver, a sports driving instructor and an engineer of GT3-class cars. A viewer who finishes a video now wants to buy a T-shirt, book a consultation or reserve a training date. An off-the-shelf theme with a dozen plugins cannot build that path, so we replaced it with a custom WordPress theme with its own editor blocks and a WooCommerce shop.

The brief: turn a YouTube viewer into a customer without leaving the brand

There were four goals, and each one became a concrete part of the system:

Viewer → Customer
The header leads straight to the channel, the shop and the brand story. Nobody has to hunt for how to buy or book.
Knowledge in one place
Over 20 blog posts on tyres, brakes, geometry and drifting. Most embed a video that opens in a lightbox, without leaving the page.
Order online
A shop with consultations, training and merch, plus a booking calendar, connected to Przelewy24 payments.
Brand from the first second
A dark palette, red #e10600, chequered flags and a 1990-2026 timeline with archive photos. All in one consistent theme.

⛔ MYTH: “A ready-made theme and a page builder are enough for a blog, a shop and bookings” 🚫

REALITY: A page builder and a dozen plugins mean hundreds of kilobytes of code on every page and the risk that a WooCommerce update breaks the cart mid-season. At FLAT OUT all look and behaviour logic lives in one dedicated theme. WordPress and WooCommerce updates do not overwrite it, and the client edits content in the native Gutenberg editor.

System architecture: what we built ⚙️

The flatout.pl site runs on WordPress with a theme written from scratch, no page builder. The key elements:

  • Custom editor blocks: hero, counters, sections and the timeline have dedicated Gutenberg panels (content and headings, background and media, counters, timeline). The client changes texts and photos live on the canvas without touching code.
  • A home page that works as a navigator: a menu with dynamic scrollspy guides visitors through TRAINING, CONSULTING, CAR RENTAL, ABOUT, KNOWLEDGE and SPRING CALCULATOR, with shop and cart buttons alongside. The red underline follows the scroll smoothly.
  • YouTube counters from a single source: subscribers, video count and views come from the YouTube Data API and appear identically in the header, footer and hero. Results are cached for 6 hours, and if the API fails the site shows the last good value. A circuit breaker pauses new requests for 15 minutes, and the admin sees a dashboard notice with the cause.
  • A blog with lightbox videos: 16:10 thumbnails, a YouTube player opening above the content and a play badge on each post tile.
  • A WooCommerce shop on custom templates: cart, checkout and the customer account have dedicated views and a three-step stepper (cart, delivery and payment, confirmation). Przelewy24 handles payments: BLIK, instant bank transfers and cards.
  • Bookings: the Amelia calendar on the consultation and training date pages, integrated with WooCommerce.
  • Brand history: a chronicle of 22 events from 1990 to 2026 with 18 archive photos, and seven milestones with a hover effect on the home page.
  • Analytics in the site’s own dashboard: a visit counter with 15-minute deduplication shows views today, over 7 and 30 days, a device split and the last 50 visits. Google Site Kit with GA4 runs alongside.
  • Compliance and SEO: cookie consent management, a full set of legal documents (terms, GDPR privacy policy, cookies, returns and complaints) and hand-written meta titles and descriptions for 14 pages in The SEO Framework.

🎯 Benefit for the creator and brand owner:

The site is not a channel business card but the second half of the business. A viewer goes from a video to a post, and from a post to the shop or calendar, in a few clicks, while the owner updates content alone and sees in one dashboard what works.

Performance and maintenance: hard data from the rollout 📊

After deployment to the production server (LiteSpeed, PHP 8.3, HTTPS) we optimised the environment and measured the effect on 3 September 2026. We later checked the finished site in Lighthouse 13.6 (6 November 2026):

  • Lighthouse, desktop: Performance 99, Accessibility 97, Best Practices 100, SEO 100. LCP 0.9 s, Total Blocking Time 0 ms, CLS 0.01.
  • Lighthouse, mobile: Performance 95, Accessibility 97, Best Practices 100, SEO 100. Total Blocking Time 60 ms, CLS 0.
  • Home page response time: from 2.94 s to 0.46 s (about 84% faster).
  • Home page transfer: from 101 KB to 25.9 KB thanks to GZIP compression (about 75% less).
  • Database: expired transients and logs cleaned, all 57 tables optimised.
  • Cache: a static page cache and long cache headers for fonts, images, CSS and JS.
  • Update resilience: all look-and-feel code lives in the theme, so WordPress and WooCommerce updates do not overwrite it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a custom theme better than a ready-made page-builder template for a brand with a YouTube channel?
A page builder and a dozen plugins add hundreds of kilobytes of code to every page and raise the risk of breakage after an update. A custom theme contains only what the brand needs, and WordPress and WooCommerce updates do not overwrite it.
How does a YouTube viewer get to the shop or to booking?
The header, the blog with lightbox videos and the home page sections lead to the shop, consultations and the booking calendar in a few clicks. Przelewy24 handles payments (BLIK, instant transfers, cards) and dates are booked in the Amelia calendar.
What happens to the YouTube counters when the API does not respond?
The site shows the last good value from the API, and a circuit breaker pauses new requests for 15 minutes. The admin sees a dashboard notice with the cause, so the numbers on the page never disappear or jump to placeholder values.
Can the brand owner edit content alone?
Yes. Hero, counters, sections and the timeline have dedicated panels in the Gutenberg editor, so texts and photos are changed live, without a developer and without touching code.
